Project 4 Progress

Once again, I wanted to do something with the AI character from my previous project. I thoroughly enjoyed some of the effects I utilized in the last project, so, once again, I want to do a video that follows the AI’s continuing struggle against paradoxes. This time, rather than incorporating origami, I will be continuing the “story” after the AI’s transformation into a humanoid figure.

I was partially inspired by catatonic schizophrenia, a form of the mental disorder where people hold an awkward position for an unreasonable amount of time. Since I am dealing with a character that has artificial intelligence, I wanted to give it a mental disorder as if it was a real human being. As a robot who wanted to be free, I think the constricting nature of catatonic schizophrenia would throw a wrench into the AI’s plans (pun intended).

Originally, I wanted to print a smiley face photo onto a ski mask, so I purchased a type of paper that could transfer onto clothing. However, most likely due to the material of the ski mask, this was unsuccessful. Instead, I will cut out the smiley face from paper and lay it on top of a mask, which I think would be interesting because it gives a much stronger sense of artificiality due to the lack of depth in the face.

Also carrying over from the previous project is the robotic voice. In Project 3, I wanted to overlay a male and a female voice, but, for whatever reason, the cadences were different in too many parts. For the script of this project, I will keep the sentences much shorter to try and lay the male and female voices on top of each other. The reasoning behind this mixture was to give the paradoxes a sense of universality, one that transcends gender and human beings.

I want to do something with constellations, but I’m not entirely sure how I want to go about it. To hint at the universality of the themes of this project, I want to use various landscapes, including a beach, a city, and some sort of wilderness. On top of these images, I want to include birds in a particular formation, carrying the image of the crane from the previous project over to this one. Partially, this was inspired by an idea I had of bird formations in the shape of star formations. I have looked into which constellations I wanted to mimic, so perhaps I can lay over birds in these constellations and lay it on top of the landscapes. My only problem would be to do it in a way that it wouldn’t disrupt the flow or movement of the rest of the video.
