Why am I Wasting So Much Time on Creepypastas?

When I presented my third project, I mentioned in class that my concept was partially inspired by creepypastas. Essentially, a creepypasta is an online story that deals with strange happenings and the occult. There’s a massive online community, and, to be completely honest, most of these stories are terrible, relying on shock value over substance. Also, I listen to creepypastas rather than watch them. Something about the added sound effects and music adds to the overall creepiness of these stories, and the best ones I have listened to use sounds and music effectively to evoke some reaction from me. I am not easily scared (honest!), but my body cringes at the idea of something existing beyond human comprehension. Even though I don’t believe in the occult, I wouldn’t know what I would do if something would happen to me like they do in a creepypasta.

I can never consider creepypastas to be “worthy” of literary merit, but it doesn’t mean that my recent projects have been inspired by the. With the character of the artificial intelligence named “@rophy,” I thought it would be fun and unique to present a “creepypasta” in video form. Borrowing sound and absurd imagery, I think by playing off the creepypasta narrative, I can come up with something …. Unsettling.

Here are a couple of my favorite ones:
